Sample Website

Wouldn't it be easier if you just published one simple example of use, complete with basic configuration setup?

That would be my preference if at all possible.

Thanks.

Velio, this looks amazing.  I'm new to membership providers and this looks like a good clean example of how to do it.  I downloaded the sample app, and see the default user "velio" but the password is hashed.  I tried replacing the xml file with the sample one available on this site and then tried admin/admin and member/member, but I can't do a successful login.  Can you help?

Hi,

You have to change the password format in the membership config section in web.config from Hashed to Clear and you will be able to put your passwords as plain text in Users.xml

Here is how the section with Hashed format looks (the last entry):

<membership defaultProvider="XmlMembershipProvider">

    <providers>

        <clear/>

        <add applicationName="MY_APP_NAME_HERE"

            name="XmlMembershipProvider"

            type="Artem.Web.Security.XmlMembershipProvider"

            minRequiredPasswordLength="1"

            minRequiredNonAlphanumericCharacters="0"

            requiresQuestionAndAnswer="false"

            requiresUniqueEmail="false"

            passwordFormat="Hashed"/>

    </providers>

</membership>

And here is how it should look after your change:

<membership defaultProvider="XmlMembershipProvider">

    <providers>

        <clear/>

        <add applicationName="MY_APP_NAME_HERE"

            name="XmlMembershipProvider"

            type="Artem.Web.Security.XmlMembershipProvider"

            minRequiredPasswordLength="1"

            minRequiredNonAlphanumericCharacters="0"

            requiresQuestionAndAnswer="false"

            requiresUniqueEmail="false"

            passwordFormat="Clear"/>

    </providers>

</membership>

Here is a link to a page where that is shortly, but good explained.
